We are the company responsible for creating Fernlow. We’re a Build to Rent investor, developer and operator… which put simply means we build homes for rent.

The main difference between traditional rental housing and communities like Fernlow is that we operate each home with a rigorous focus on resident satisfaction.

Yes, sorry! We tend to use that word to differentiate ourselves from traditional buy-to-let landlords to emphasise the higher levels of customer service upon which communities like Fernlow are founded.

Yes and no.  The first difference is size. Most buy-to-let landlords are private individuals managing less than 10 homes whilst operators like us often manage thousands of rental homes. The other difference is that most private landlords have ‘day-jobs’ which is a polite way of saying they are unable to provide the same level of professionalism and rapid response times that we offer to our residents.

Glad you asked! Firstly, we refer to our customers as ‘residents’….not ‘tenants’. It doesn’t sound like much, but we find that including a word more commonly found in the hospitality sector fundamentally improves the consumer experience. We also offer security of tenure, which is industry jargon for saying that you can rent for as long as you want. That’s because we are long-term owners of our rental communities. And because we are long-term owners, we’re very attentive to things like maintenance. That’s why we encourage residents to report issues via our ‘residents app’ so that we can resolve them in hours or days…. not weeks and months!

There isn’t one. Imagine traditional renting, only better. There are other goodies too. Many of our homes come with what we call ‘zero bills’. That means residents receive no energy bills….ever! We’re also into community building, which is another way of saying we like to throw events so that residents can get to know each other. These include Easter egg hunts, Father Christmas visits, BBQs and even the occasional ice cream van on a hot summer’s afternoon!
